SENATOR JOYCE NAMED POLICE ASSOCIATION ‘LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR’

Senator Brian A. Joyce has been named the "2001 Legislator of the Year" by the Massachusetts Police Association for his legislative leadership on public safety issues in the state.

The award, given annually by the Massachusetts Police Association, is presented to only one senator in recognition of exemplary support of the law enforcement community. During his tenure in the Senate, Senator Joyce has worked to increase funding for police training as well as for additional funding for community policing. As the Senate Chairman of the Public Service Committee, Senator Joyce has consistently demonstrated strong support for not only public safety, but also for public safety officers.

"As a legislator, Senator Joyce has always been concerned with both the public’s safety and with the concerns of law enforcement officers," said Massachusetts Police Association Legislative Director Jim Machado. "The Senator’s work has benefited police officers across the Commonwealth."

Senator Joyce will officially receive the award at a ceremony on July 19th in Boston.

"I am honored to be the recipient of this distinguished award from such an important and valued organization," said Senator Joyce.
