RANDOLPH — The Federal Aviation Administration has extended its comment period for 30 days, to March 15, to give people more time to weigh in on a revised departure route from Boston Logan International Airport that could affect residents of Canton, Randolph and Milton, state Sen. Brian A. Joyce said.
The comment period originally was scheduled to end Feb. 15, with the proposed changes to go into effect March 7.
In the interest of minimizing the impact on affected communities, any flight-path changes will be followed by a six-month review, according to the FAA.
Officials in all three towns have been critical of the planned departure-route change, which would redirect flights over the towns.
“I’m happy that the FAA has recognized the need to extend the public-input period,” Joyce said. “The towns located underneath the southbound departure-route path are already heavily impacted by the airplane noise and pollution. Extending the comment period will allow better community participation in this decision that will have a significant environmental impact on each of the towns located below these flight paths.”
