Canton, MA – On Tuesday, September 28th, Senator Brian A. Joyce joined Governor Deval Patrick and Organogenesis CEO Geoff MacKay to announce the further expansion of Organogenesis, the regenerative medicine leader which once planned to move its operations outside Massachusetts. At a ribbon cutting ceremony, a new headquarters building was unveiled at 85 Dan Road.
Organogenesis was poised to move to Rhode Island several years ago and take many well paying jobs out of state. Sen. Joyce worked closely with the Massachusetts Office of Business Development and convinced the company to stay and create high paying jobs in the Senator’s district. In the past few years, Organogenesis has doubled their workforce, which will expand further, and has an average salary of $77,000. The company has grown in Canton from one building to three, with additional buildings planned, and now has over $100 million in revenue.
“I am very happy to join Governor Patrick and CEO Geoff MacKay in celebrating this expansion of Organogenesis,” said Senator Joyce. “The rapid growth of this life science company's workforce with high paying jobs is exactly what we envisioned when we passed the life sciences initiative.”
At the ribbon cutting ceremony, CEO MacKay, in his remarks, told of Senator Joyce’s fierce determination that the company remain and grow in his district, joking about driving around in Senator Joyce’s car looking at possible sites for expansion.
In 2008, Senator Joyce worked with the Patrick Administration to create an incentive package for Organogenesis at the same time that he helped move the Life Sciences bill through the Senate. Unlike prior initiatives in other states and previous administrations, state support is conditioned upon a “claw back” provision, wherein there are financial penalties if a company does not create the promised jobs, which Organogenesis has.
“This expansion is proof that our targeted and prudent investments are resulting in the creation of much needed jobs,” said Senator Joyce.
In addition to Organogenesis, Senator Joyce is currently working with several companies in his district to spur growth and create jobs including: PuraVida H2O in Randolph, and E*Fill America and Boston Apparel Group in West Bridgewater.
